In Which Diversity Isn’t a Myth

Ok. I’m tired of the typical vampire, werewolf and fairy.I’m also tired of the occidental-centrism in mythology. Hence, this list.

I tried to included as many cultural variants as I could find and think of. (Unfortunately, I was restricted by language. Some Russian creatures looked very interesting but I don’t speak Russian…) Please, add creatures from your culture when reblogging (if not already present). It took me a while to gather all those sites but I know it could be more expansive. I intend on periodically editing this list.

Of note: I did not include specific legendary creatures (Merlin, Pegasus, etc), gods/goddesses/deities and heroes.

All ships and WIPs are welcome.

from my October Occult Challenge (sp00qy) fic:

At two a.m. every light in the house comes on.  A door creaks and slams shut, and then the lights flicker as a series of dissonant sounds echo through the flat. Q can’t distinguish most of them, but the the last thing he hears is undeniably in M’s voice:  “I assume you have no regrets.  It would be unprofessional.” And then the room plunges into darkness.

Q has already grabbed his laptop and is checking that he has data from every sensor when he hears the click of the door down the hall and the soft approach of footsteps.  He glances up as Bond clears the corner, wild-eyed with his gun drawn.

“If you shoot me, 007, I shall be quite vexed.”

mi6-cafe:

We are halfway through Occult October, so we thought it’d be a good time to remind people about our various events. Check out the rest of the MI6 Cafe’s October schedule!

MI6 Cafe Carving Spree

007 can show off his knife skills any time he likes, but those of us without a license to kill have to wait until October, when carving season is upon us.

This October, we’d love to see posts of any Bond-related pumpkins, turnips, or any other carved produce that 007 fandom can come up with!

FIC REC: Ulysses by girlbookwrm (Skyfall and SPECTRE Fandom, James Bond/Q)

fandomthoughtsblog:

Once in a while a fic comes along and knocks you over the head with its brilliance. Or at least its realistic characterization.

Title: Ulysses by girlbookwrm (@television-and-tea).

Words: 89,065 (complete)

Rating: T

Read herehttp://archiveofourown.org/works/11254152/chapters/25159764

The story picks up around the events of Skyfall from Q’s perspective as he steps into the role of Q, dives into SPECTRE, and then imagines beyond it after Chapter 5. There is Q whump and badassery. There is betrayal and angst. There is Slow Burn (a realistic crush manifesting first from Q, then Bond), foreshadowing (and did I mention very realistic characterization??) and great nods to other characters like Q’s cats, Moneypenny, Alec, Tanner, M, and the oft-forgotten Psych and Counselor teams at Mi6. And worry not: there’s fluff too, and omg a beautiful ending.

Seriously, I’m as much looking forward as everyone else to seeing what happens in Bond 25, but I’m easily fine with this novel being my headcanon for What Happens After SPECTRE. Girlbookwrm pays enough attention to detail that there’s even a nod to a deleted draft from SPECTRE, and… well, my main point is that this fic is believable

Side note: I’ve been lurking in fandom for YEARS, and not once have I written a tumblr post to rec a fic. This story was posted around the same time I fell into 00q (July!), so I’ve been following it for the past few weeks as new chapters were posted.

And now it is finally done. Go – go read, and let me know if you do so we can discuss. 😀

I’ve recc’ed it before and I’ll rec it again…  Go read, right now!  (I’ll wait)
