Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day, August 21st
To celebrate the Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day on August 21st, and following this post, here’s what you can do to show your favorite fanfiction writers how grateful you are for their work!
Okay, so here’s my rec for today. It’s a 00q WIP and it’s FABULOUS.
Ulysses by girlbookwrm
“Paperwork for the new head of Q-Branch,” Tanner said.
“Of
course.” The words were like glass in his throat. Smoke inhalation was a
bitch. His brain felt slow and foggy, like it was full of smoke too.
“Whom shall I take them to?”
M lifted one white brow. “They’re for you, Quartermaster.”
Bond
and Q are drawn together by names, work, and a certain Aston Martin. In
which Q is kidnapped once, Bond is poisoned twice, and Eve is a badass
on at least three occasions. AKA that time I tripped and wrote 67,000
words of 00Q.
What I love about it: It’s so smart. Characterizations are fantastic. It starts with some missing scenes and the timeline of the films we know, but never retells things we should know from canon (i.e., doesn’t bore us), just fills in things that make this universe special. Then it picks up in earnest after Spectre. The dialogue is sharp and witty and crisp, Q is tough and adorable and Bond is reluctantly soul searching when he’s not in total denial of his feelings. Moneypenney characterizes Bond as, “With him, it’s either no feelings, or all the feelings.” And it feels totally true.
It’s slow burn with lots of action and great character arcs. I can’t wait to read the rest.
To celebrate the Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day on August 21st, and following this post, here’s what you can do to show your favorite fanfiction writers how grateful you are for their work!
Whether you are just a reader or a writer as well, on August 21st:
- Go on AO3, FF.net, Wattpad or any other fanfiction website, even Tumblr, and leave comments on your favorite fics. It doesn’t matter if you’ve already reviewed them, just do it again. It doesn’t even have to be a long comment, just show your appreciation. Tell the writers how much you love their fics. Let them know what they mean to you.
- Since you’re there, give kudos, favorite their fics, vote, like them.
- Send your favorite writers an encouraging message. Tell them how much you love their work. Tell them which of their fics is your favorite and why. Tell them why they’re important to you.
- Make a post recommending some of your favorite fics to your followers so that they have a chance to read them as well and share them with others. Spread the word.
Make this a very special day for your favorite writers, but remember to nurture them often. They spend countless hours working on plots, developing characters and creating worlds that wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for them. And they do it for free, of their own accord and frequently during their free time. It takes hard work and commitment and love for what they’re doing. And they do it for them just as much as they do it for you, so appreciate it.
They give you infinite ways in which your favorite characters find love, go on adventures and get to experience different lives, new challenges. They give you unimaginable versions of your favorite stories that you’ll just never get to see in the official storyline. They give you the opportunity to fall in love with your favorite characters all over again. Be grateful for that and don’t be afraid to express it.
Show your favorite writers how much you appreciate them and you might just make their day. And a writer who knows that their work is loved is a happy writer. Never forget that. Always share your love 🙂

I needed to write it, Rules: tag the person who tagged you, always post the rules, answer the questions, and add the date!
I was tagged by my dear friend @rycolfan- <3<3<3
I’m just going to use my ato-the-bean acct on AO3, which means this is all pinto fandom.
What are your five most popular works? (starting with the most kudos)
What are your five least popular works? (starting with the least kudos)
Are you surprised? Why?
Not in terms of the popular ones. Bleary is obviously my most popular work, and Cleaving is connected to it. Assumptions and Revelations are linked as well, and the Layover is Christmas fluff, and who doesn’t love that?
As for the unpopular ones, A Walk Through the Park and The Other 364 are both mini fics from Bleary!verse…small enough that it’s not surprising they don’t have many kudos. Brokenhearted is sad, and short, and borderline exploitive, perhaps. Not surprising people didn’t like it. Premiers is newish and short… I guess it’s not surprising that it doesn’t have many kudos.
The biggest surprise and disappointment is The Weight of a Gaze. It’s part of the Assumptions/Revelations verse, and kinky as shit, and I thought the fandom would like that but ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Optional: If you want to calculate this, what are your works’ average number of notes?
I only post drabbles and snippets on tumblr, so nah…
Today’s date, so you can see how your results might change if you do this again in a year.
11/08/2017
I don’t really know who’s been tagged, so if you’ve already done it,, feel free to ignore. I’ll tag @a-forger-and-a-point-man, @drgrlfriend, @entrenous88, @zjofierose, @elisa-pie, and @suedescripture. Only if you want to.

writer: *stops mid-sentence* damn what’s the word I want?
writer: *spends 25 minutes on google trying to figure out the right vocab word*
writer: *gets a paragraph done*
writer: *starts another sentence, stops* what is that really specific fact I need?
writer: *spends an hour trying to figure out this obscure thing that probably doesn’t actually matter*
writer: Wait what’s that thing called again?
writer: *has no idea how to search for what I need*
writer: *ends up digging through blogs and other archived websites for details*
writer: *needs to reference source material for fact checking*
writer: *has to eat and sleep at some point*
writer: should it be “she regards him with disdain” or “she glares at him with disdain” ??? (hint: it doesnt matter but gunna go back and forth over it for an hour)
writer: *gets distracted by the internet in general*
writer: HOW IS THIS ONLY 800 WORDS???????
writer: fuck proofreading
writer: okay fine i’ll proofread.
writer: holy shit this is awful.
writer: *reworks entire sections*
writer: *doesn’t think I’m good enough as a writer and stops for a few days*
writer: repeat process as needed.
