All Our Yesterdays

(This is not at all complete, but I’m afraid if I don’t post something now, I won’t have anything done today..)

Because Chris is going to be in town for the premiere of “The Boys in the Band,” Miles makes himself scarce. It’s only fair, considering Miles got to be with Zach for “The Glass Menagerie.”  They don’t hash out a score for things that happened before Miles came into the picture, so Chris doesn’t “owe” Miles anything for having been at Zach’s Broadway debut.

Chris and Zach don’t see each other as often as they used to, but Chris is grateful that Miles is willing to share, even if it’s only with him. Clinging to monogamy is part of what broke Zach and Jon up, and Chris doesn’t want to be the reason behind another of Zach’s failed relationships. He seems especially happy this time. Chris would feel terrible if he made Zach fuck it up.

When Zach falls ill, Chris has no choice but to take him out of Los Angeles in search of somewhere safer, where they have a hope of survival. What he finds is a tiny group of people who have laid claim to a campground in the San Bernardino mountains, where they have turned to isolation and simple living as a means of survival. With circumstances forcing them to work and live together, Chris and Zach must work through their bitterness and old wounds, until they realize that even if loving each other was hard, losing each other would be harder.

In the home stretch kind of – dead!Chris is still dead

—-

Chris found Zach lying on his back in bed with arms
outstretched, as if beckoning for sleep to come. After ten minutes, he sat up
with a frustrated sigh. “This shit is not working. Leave it to Miles to score
sleeping pills as useless as he is.”

“That’s unkind,” Chris said.

“You’re right, he had many winning qualities. And a pretty sweet
ass.” Zach giggled and moved to the edge of the bed. “Sweet ass.” He reached
for the drawer of the nightstand and over compensated, only just preventing
himself from falling on the floor. “Whoa. Trippy.”

“Wait a minute, can you hear me? Are we having a
conversation right now?”

“Of course we are having a conversation right now, Dream-Chris,
God!” Zach shook his head and smiled loopily as he finally got the drawer open and
reached inside for a bottle of lube. “There we go, yeah.” He rolled back onto
the bed he wrong way around, with his feet resting on the pillows. He fumbled
the baggy gym shorts he’d taken to wearing lately down his hips, pulled his
dick out, and squirted way too much lube into the palm of his hand. “Haven’t
much felt like doing this lately,” he muttered as he tugged at himself
inexpertly.

Chris looked down on him from where he was standing at the
foot of the bed. His heart hammered in his chest—was this really happening? “You
can see and hear me.”

Zach rolled his eyes. “You know, as psychotic delusions go,
you’re kind of dumb, Pine. Of course I can see and hear you—you’re there every
night.”

“I am not a delusion.”

“Whatever, OK? Now don’t distract me, I’m in the middle of
something here.”

“Are you really sure jerking off is the right thing to do
after taking a sleeping pill, Zachary? Zach? Hey! Oh, Jesus fucking Christ,” Chris
muttered as he realized Zach had fallen asleep with his limp dick in his hand.
