For the never have I ever fic meme: break up (and then make up) fic?

Hmmm.  Not really.  The closest I’ve come in Pinto is Cleaving, and that’s obviously a false alarm.  And then in Prelude in C (A Twilight canon prequel covering from 1918 to the 30s) I include the time when Edward leaves Carlisle and gives up his vegetarianism, and that really feels like a breakup and makeup, though it’s not romantic.

If I were to write that for Pinto… I’d probably make it a two-parter, with the first relationship being back in the 2009-10 time frame, during the first movie and the breakup brutal, with both of them feeling lucky to retain a decent working relationship.  And over time, the pain mellows and their friendship becomes real again, because they can be happy for each other even though things didn’t work out, right?  And then the make up would be now, after they’ve both had other relationships and have completely given up on each other romantically, but something clicks, some of that old spark is still mixed in with the warmth their friendship has maintained over the years.  But this time, they’re both more comfortable in their own skins AND both aware of how absolutely rare that spark is, and they didn’t find it with other people, even though those were perfectly fine relationships.  And so they try…

look, you don’t have to update on any kind of schedule. you just don’t. I hope that you can find some quiet moments amid all the busy stuff in your life and delve into the stuff about the story that brings you joy and lets you get immersed in that world. basically TAKE YOUR TIME

Thank you for that!  I really do appreciate it.  I’m just afraid that the longer it goes, the harder it will be to get immersed.  So I’m going to try to get back in sooner rather than later.

I like the way your characters reveal so much about themselves in their reactions to every day things. It stuck with me in Bleary how Chris was so organized and collected (and making graphs and taking notes!) while Nathan was sick, and then when he and Zach realized Nathan was getting better, how during that intense relief and removal of pressure, that was the moment that he broke down. It was such a great comment on his strengths and his very human vulnerabilities!

Oh, thank you so much for that!  It was something I did really deliberately – giving Chris and Zach different reactions to the stress of Nathan’s illness.  Some readers took it as Chris being stronger in a crisis, but you read it the way I intended…they just fall apart at different times.  Chris’ “organization” is also sort of avoidance.  He’s dealing with minutia so he doesn’t have to think of the big picture.  Zach is focused on the big picture, what he might lose, savoring what he has. In a way he’s being braver, even though he looks like a wreck on the outside.  And when the crisis is over, it hit’s Chris all at once.  I’m so glad that it worked for you.  I was honestly never really sure that it did.

U – Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

Hmmm.  Okay.  Three fandoms and characters:

From the Johnlock fandom: John.  He’s loyal, and a crack shot, and constantly underestimated by most everyone around him, hence surprises them by being BAMF!John.  I love those fics.

Pinto: There are so many characterizations of these boys, and there aren’t many I don’t like.  My favorite is when either of them pining.  Or befuddled.  It’s hard to pick a favorite between them.  I really do love each of them, but I generally see Chris as still sorting himself out more, so that’s interesting to read.

00q.  Q  Again, I love them both, but I love when people underestimate Q and are very, very surprised.  Also, we don’t have any backstory on him, so people always come up with the most interesting stuff.

Spirk (bonus).  Since I waffled so much on Pinto, I’ll say I love Spock.  There’s so much tension in that character, so many things he hides even from himself, it’s wonderful to read.
