It was probably the last place I expected things to catch up with me.
Clarisse
might be from a tiny country, but she’s pretty well known in certain
circles. Not necessarily my own circles, but peripherally. She’s
familiar with my Aunt and my mother, so you can imagine, I was certain
she’d have something to say, but she didn’t. It was Chris she was after.
Chris, who is unlike anyone I’ve ever wanted. Whose family is incredible and humble and warm.
*laughs*
I’m sorry. You asked what went through my mind at that time, and I
panicked. I had just kissed Chris and everything changed so fast.
Everything got complicated so fast. For both of us. And as I think
you’ll see, it tends to keep doing that.
The one thing I’ve figured out is constant, though, is Chris. Short for Christopher.
Did you know that three Danish kings have borne that name?
Well, whadaya know, I finished something for Pinto de Mayo after all! Big thanks to @cptfine for giving me a prompt that I could whip out in a day, since nothing else was working for me. <333

With circumstances forcing them to work and live together, Chris and Zach must work through their bitterness and old wounds, until they realize that even if loving each other was hard, losing each other would be harder.
A/N: Well, it’s been basically a year in the making, off and on, but PAHC is finally here. I am so thankful for all the support you guys have given me while I wrestled with this thing. Extra specials thanks to RC, whom I could not have done this without, and to Jouissant and Jupiter, who also cheered me on and gave great feedback. ❤ And thank you to my WONDERFUL artists, whose work you can find linked below. Credit to that lovely cover up there goes to @silent-bridge!
That is such a hard question to answer, because there is such a range of stories in Pinto fandom, from the bleakest angst to the porniest porn to the fluffiest fluff.
The first story I clearly remember reading in Pinto fandom, and one that still is easily in my top three all-time favorite fics, is A Passage That Sings by Rave. I know I read Pinto before that, but that’s the one that sticks in my mind most clearly. I think it is definitely one of the most quintessential Pinto fics and I recommend everyone read it, because it’s just too good.
Other than that…idk, I struggle with reccing, because, like I said, it depends on what you want, and also, I really think that the fic has evolved a lot? Like, I think there’s a big divide in tone between fics written before STID and fics written after STID, and since I came into fandom after, I tend to prefer the newer stuff overall, because it’s what I’m used to. So my Essential Pinto list would probably be wildly different from someone who has been a Bean for years. BUT, here are the things that always immediately come to mind when someone asks me for must-reads (in addition to A Passage That Sings):
Agree that A Passage that Sings may be the quintessential, intro to Wordplay as Foreplay fic for newcomers. It was one of the first Pinto fics I read and the one that cemented my love for this pairing. I even forced my husband to read it, I thought it was so brilliant.
I love A Passage That Sings, too. Though for real Wordplay as Foreplay (word wars, poetry) I have to add Suave Sesquipedalian Bastard to the list of early quintessential (quintossential?) Pinto fanfics. it has so many great Pinto tropes. And I’m a wordy girl, and used the dictionary at least twice…
Chapters: 12/12 Fandom: Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: James T. Kirk/Spock, Spock & Nyota Uhura, Christopher Pike & Spock, James T. Kirk & Christopher Pike, Spock/Uhura background Characters: James T. Kirk, Spock, Spock Prime, Leonard McCoy, Carol Marcus, Nyota Uhura, Hikaru Sulu, Pavel Chekov, Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, Christopher Pike Additional Tags: Slow Build, post-STID, Storytelling, Psychological Trauma, Mind Meld, Rebuilding, the khan serum is some messed up stuff, Dammit Jim, Feelings Series: Part 3 of that which we are, we are Summary:
“It takes Spock a year to tell the whole story—a year spanning the length of San Francisco, from a stony bayside overlooking the destruction to a Russian teahouse in the heart of the city to a booth in the back of a bar where the bridge crew meets every two weeks to drink away the things they’ve seen. Jim never drinks, and looks haunted in the dim red lights, so Spock and Nyota come with him to the booths in the back when that happens and they talk and sometimes Jim just says, “Tell me a story,” so Spock tells—”
After he wakes, Jim can’t escape what’s happened: Pike, Marcus, Khan, San Francisco, his own death and resurrection and the terrible consequences. To get their ship back, Spock must help him come to terms with the reality—and tell his own stories to pass on the message that Pike left behind. Slow build Jim/Spock (against the background of a crumbling Spock/Uhura, but no Uhura hatin’). Part three of “that which we are, we are”, following “Though much is taken, much abides” and “that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven”.
“Hey, shh, it’s going to be all right,” Zach said. He held Chris’s head cradled against his shoulder, his hand
lightly resting on the back of Chris’s neck. He traced small circles on Chris’s
back with the fingers of his other hand; it was all oddly soothing.
Chris brought his hands up, palms on Zach’s chest, and
pushed off. Zach still held on, hands resting lightly on Chris’s arms. “Feel
better?”
Chris couldn’t take his eyes off Zach’s lips as he spoke.
“You shouldn’t keep stuff all bottled up inside,” Zach went
on. “That’s what my mom always said, but she never got shoved into a locker by
a basketball player, you know what I’m saying?” He chuckled for a moment, but
something in Chris’s face made him stop. “What? What is it?”
Chris closed the distance between them in a rush, the kiss
going a bit wide (“Aw, you shanked it, Chrissy!” he could hear Katie’s
voice chiding him in his head), but he quickly recovered. Zach’s lips were warm
like he remembered, and he tasted like toasted marshmallows and beer.
OMFG! Yes! Yes! YES!
*bangs hand on table like Meg Ryan faking an orgasm…except mine isn’t fake*
