Chapter 7

“Then I too
shall resign,” he says.

“Excuse
me?” Jim gapes at him.

“Thus we
shall have more chances,” Spock reasons. “If we both resign, the Admiralty will
be in a very inconvenient position. It will be much harder to explain to the
President.”

“Spock,
no,” Jim holds up a hand. “I appreciate your gesture of solidarity, but you
can’t risk your career like that. Besides, what of the Enterprise? Who will
look after her?”

“Jim,
please, don’t…” Spock implores, gazing at Jim intensely. “I cannot stand the
thought of being parted from you.”

He puts his
palm over Jim’s hand, not caring anymore that he commits an indiscretion, and
is instantly engulfed by a warm, gentle, fuzzy feeling. It has been there all
along, seeping through the link, reflected in Jim’s eyes – Spock took it for
affection of a friend. Now he understands what it is, so deep and strong that
everything else fades in the background. The link between them is glowing,
nourished by this powerful energy, it asks for more, yearns for completion. Requited. It is true. How…

The
next second Jim presses their mouths together.

Post STID goodness…

Wordplay as Foreplay, the Poetry Fics – The Edited Version

In my continued PSA about non-AO3 Pinto fics, I rediscovered a story that I read years ago and loved, and then lost.  Zach is a poet, and the original poetry in the story is actually really striking.

And then it reminded me of another story, in which Chris and Zach text each bits of poetry long distance.

Both are gorgeously written and evocative.  Only one is non-AO3, but I linked them here for you, because they are linked in my mind.  If you know of any other fics focused on poetry, please feel free to add them and reblog.  I love this trope.

Title:  The Retiring of Joyce Dramis
Author:  ewinfic
Summary:  Pintofest prompt by babykid528
– “Zach’s an excellent poet… secretly.  Only his mom and brother know
he’s the author.  As it turns out Zach is Chris’ favorite poet – Chris
actually wrote a big final paper at Berkeley all about Zach’s poetry.”

Title: This is Just to Say
Author:  reginalds
Summary:  My favourite part of the canonical bromance between Chris Pine
and Zachary Quinto is that they’re both literary nerds. And that they
confine their displays of masculinity to the MASTERY OF THE ENGLISH
LANGUAGE. And you guys, I am such a hopeless and devoted English major,
and I am just not strong enough to resist the lure of grown men who fly
spaceships and use words like “moribund” and “zeitgeist” in interview
situations. So this is a story of how boy wooed boy.

Adding, one more that I’d forgotten was so poetry-laden.  The other suggestions were literary, but not necessarily poetic.

Title: Suave Sesquipedalian Bastard
Author:  blcwriter
Summary:  Chris is trapped in an inferno of words, and Zach Quinto is the devil stoking the fire.

I find it interesting that the last two use some of the same poems, and I’m wondering if Chris said in an interview once what his favorites were, or if there’s some other meta reason for that.

And edited again, adding one more that I wrote after the original post.  It didn’t start out as a poetry fic, but it did end up using a poem… to porny ends.

Title: ”What Spring Does”
Author: AtoTheBean
Summary:  Rabidchild67 asked, “So who’s writing the blindfolded, tied up pie fic
where zach makes him come by touching everything BUT his dick?”

Title: Training Wheels
Author: the_deep_magic
Pairing: Pinto
Rating: NC-17 overall
Total Word Count: 37,996
Warnings: AU, angst, h/c – see more specific warnings in each chapter heading
Disclaimer: nothing pertaining to Chris or Zach is true, but the therapy described is real
Summary: surrogate (n): one appointed to act in place of another; a substitute

Another sex therapy AU, this time with Zach as the receiver of therapy and Chris as the Sex Surrogate.  I love the ending, and there’s lots of sweet sexiness in the middle.I hate the white text on black background, but maybe your eyes are younger than mine…

Fantastic story and art

It has recently come to my attention…(part 2)

…that there is a WHOLE WORLD of Pinto fic from before I became a
Bean, far off the beaten path of AO3.  I’m so grateful someone organized
the list of authors.  I’ve been making my way though some here and
there.

As I find ones that stand out and that I hadn’t heard of before, I’ll rec them here. Today during lunch I discovered

Hiding His Head in a Hole

Angsty first time fraught with assumptions that might not be quite accurate.  Poor Zachary.

This author has an even angstier one, but it hurts my poor heart.  So if you like that sort of thing, you can find it on your own
