First fic you ever wrote:
I started writing fanfic in the Twilight fandom (waits for the
collective groan). Basically, SM did two things to make me want to
write with a few of her characters. First, she started a version of
Twilight from Edward’s POV, and then NEVER FINISHED IT. So duh, that
had to happen. He’s actually way more interesting than Bella, and it
was a better book, and then it stopped. I found a fanfic that did a
decent job finishing it, but there was a gap between where Midnight Sun
ended and the fanfic picked up. So my first fic, very originally named Midnight Sun Bridge, filled that gap.
Best fic you ever wrote:
The other thing SM did was create all these really interesting
characters (not Bella) and then do almost nothing with them. What a
waste. So my best fic is probably Prelude in C.
It actually won some fandom awards. It’s also Twilight. Basically,
we’re told that Carlisle is a completely solitary figure who hates what
he’s become for several hundred years, turns Edward, and then within 100
years is the head of a family of 7. That’s a hell of a character
transformation, and I really wanted to figure it out. It was fun, LONG,
and full of historic research and lots and LOTS of music. It even had a
playlist associated with it that I now need to recreate because the
website disappeared a few months ago. I’ve done a crappy job of
migrating it over to AO3, but when I do I intend to have the music and
historic photos embedded in the chapters.
Most popular fic you ever wrote: Among Pinto fics, definitely A Bleary, Hopeful Shade of Blue, with 9978 hits. It’s blown out of the water, though, by both Prelude in C, with 87,708 “views”, and Intervention: A TwiKinkFest Entry in Five Parts, with 83,896 “views”. To be fair, though, those are both older fics, in a much larger fandom.
Most unappreciated fic you ever wrote: Definitely Brokenhearted, with only 24 kudos. Maybe people thought it was in poor taste…
Fave fic kinks:
My favorite trope is friends to lovers/first time. My favorite kink is
bondage. I’ve explored both in my Pinto writing as well as previous
fandoms.
Fave fic writing process: I like dialog. And I
like figuring out how a character gets from one state of being to
another…what has to happen to facilitate those changes. That’s
basically how I plot stories. It’s all character driven, and getting
them from emotional state A to emotional state Z via B, C, D, etc.
Physically,
I have to borrow time to write from various moments of my life, so I
often write on the train with one thumb on my phone. It makes for
interesting editing later.
Longest fic you ever wrote: Prelude in C. 243,604 words and 3 years of my life.
Funniest fic you ever wrote: Hmmm. Not sure. I have funny moments in my fics, but they are rarely all funny. I suppose either “Let Me Call You…”, a Spirk Valentine’s Day short, or Pictures with Santa from the Bleary!verse.
Quote a line from your fic: “And in the face of a happy baby, the mightiest of activists will toss
their righteous indignation aside and bend their ethics into
animal-named yoga poses.“ from Pictures with Santa.
If you could rec only one fic it would be:
Well, I love tons of Pinto fics, but you all already know them. In
terms of things I go back and reread over and over… Probably Home,
an abandoned Spirk reboot fic that I still have dreams of finishing one
day since the author seems long gone. I actually have something like
30k words sitting in a Word doc waiting for me to get back to it. I
also have johnlock faves and this gorgeous Aragorn/Faramir that makes me want to go play in that sandbox… but you all will probably like the Spirk the best.
I’ll tag… who’s left? loves-pie, scifishipper, nixsducky, geiszlerandgaila, nostalgia-in-starlight,
and anyone else who wants to do it. I’m honestly really bad at
remembering which of you write, so if you don’t, please forgive me and
ignore. Of if you just don’t want to… that works too.
