Spirkday snippet

From a little Spirky something I have on the back burner.

“Captain.”

He turns, seeing Spock standing at the door of the stall. He turns back to his untangling. “She’s restless,” he says, sniveling against his allergies. “I’d bet hard latinum she’ll deliver tonight, or in the morning, probably before the sun comes up.”

“Indeed?” Spock asks. “You seem to be well acquainted with the husbandry of these animals.”

Jim carefully works a thick knot out of the coarse red strands as the mare whuffles in her hay. “My aunt and uncle bred horses. Quarter horses. I stayed with them for awhile when I was a kid. Before the mass—” he stops, jaw tightening, and regroups. “I used to help, while I was there.”

Spock watches for a moment. “I admit I found them somewhat intimidating on my prior visit. They appear nervous in my presence. I believe my scent is quite foreign to them.”

Jim looks him over for moment. “Come in here.”

Spock lifts the latch, approaching cautiously.

“To the side, like me,” Jim says, “They have a blind spot right in front of their nose. Just make sure she can see you.”

Spock obeys, and Jim retrieves a peppermint from his pocket to drop in his palm. “Flat fingers, let her smell it. It will disguise your scent a bit with something she likes.”

Spock does as directed, and the mare investigates, her ears moving back and forward before her big velvety lips take the candy with hot, moist breath, making a low sound as she crunches through it, tossing her head. Spock pulls his hand away quickly. “Fascinating.”

Jim chuckles, stroking her long nose, eyes soft on Spock.

oh my god you have no idea how much i’ve thought about this ever since i first saw the movie so i’m going to talk to you about it okay

i had no knowledge of star trek when i saw into darkness, i hadn’t even seen the 2009 movie. during that scene i honestly thought that kirk was lining up to tell spock that he loves him when he said “I want you to know why I couldn’t let you die. Why I went back for you.” because wtf no one says that and then goes “because we’re bffs” 

i felt like i was invading on something so personal between them that even seeing it was really overwhelming

this is jim’s face right after spock says “because you are my friend”. you can tell that his message didn’t truly get across, and he’s thinking something along the lines of “no. you still don’t understand.”

you can see him realize what jim is trying to say. he looks at jim in shock and you can actually see his pain escalate because he’s about to lose jim immediately after the realization that jim could have been his

and jim uses his last bits of strength and smiles at the sight of their hands pressed together in a gesture usually reserved for bond mates because he’s probably wanted this for so long and even if he’s dying and this is the last time he’ll see spock he still smiles at the sight

and jim uses his last moments to try and say something to spock, but all that comes out is a cough, so he settles for smiling at him and trying to let his eyes speak for him and hope they can portray all of the love he feels for spock in a single look before he finally lets go and his hand slowly slides off of the glass

i was in pain for weeks after seeing this fucking movie and it only got worse after seeing the 2009 one and then watching into darkness again

I hate that I’m feeling depressed after discovering two of my favorite fics have been deleted.

Oh no!  Which ones?  And that IS sad… you’re right to be sad about it.

Gourmandises and its sequel Sucreries.  I tried googling both to see if they were anywhere else but no such luck.  😦

I don’t know them.  What fandom are they for?

Nevermind…just read your tags.  So sad to lose good spirk…
