Thank you to everyone who took part in the MI6 Cafe 007 Fest during July! It was great fun for mods to watch you take part (and for us to take part ourselves!). We hope you had a wonderful time, and thank you to all of those who have taken the time to provide us with feedback on the Fest – we want to make next year’s celebrations even better!

1) Overall Team Winner
The overall team winner of the 007 Fest is Team Q Branch.
This was my first year participating, and I wasn’t so much focused on having fun than maximizing points…I might take a different strategy next year, as I’m very low compared with some, but I DID successfully get a series of headcanons/chapters onto paper that I’ve had in my head for a year, which will allow me to write a lot more porn stories in that ‘verse now that it’s established. And I had fun. But I’d been working in another fandom’s fest the two months before, and didn’t have the opportunity to write ahead, and apparently CANNOT write short things. Ah well. Here’s the list, for what it’s worth.
So I count that 14 fan creations, 21,722 words, and 117 points. Not nearly so much as some of my fellow Festers, but for a crazy month and my first time, I’m counting it a win. Thanks so much to the rest of #teamqbranch and everyone over at #mi6cafe for a great July!
When Bond is asked if he has a preference in how Q wears his hair, he always answers “no.” The man, surely, is allowed to wear his hair however he likes it, after all.
This would be a lie. Bond has very specific preferences.
He absolutely hates it cropped short. It’s how he prefers to wear his own hair, but on Q it makes him look almost haunted and disconcertingly unfamiliar.
He’s also not a huge fan of Q’s beard and shoulder-length hair. It looks nice enough, and Q often gets compliments from others, but James finds it’s often in his way.
His favorite is the style Q wore his hair when they first met all those years ago: long and wavy or curly on top, trim around his ears and the nape of his neck. Long on top is easy to justify: somehow, Q just doesn’t look like Q without the floppy fringe. It took him a while to understand the rest of his preference, but decided in the end that he liked the little glimpse of Q’s long neck it offered… he liked spying that sliver of skin at odd moments in Q Branch. Enjoyed watching it catch other agents’ eyes, watching them lick their lips, all the while knowing he himself would be the only one tasting that bit of skin.
So imagine his pleasure upon coming home after a short mission and discovering Q had shaved his beard and cut his hair, just so. He toed off his shoes and padded into the kitchen, embracing Q from behind as he plated their dinner and kissing that sliver of newly exposed skin on the nape of Q’s neck.
“You could have just said, you know?” Q smirked, tilting his head to give James better access.
“I knew you’d work it out,” James said as Q turned in his arms to kiss him properly. “You’re very bright.”
Considering they are a bunch of spies, they can be awfully thick sometimes.
It’s because, Q reasons, they underestimate him. At first anyway. And they all just think that they are the most interesting people around.
Invariably one of them stumbles upon some observation that Q considers obvious, and blurts it out.
“You’re ambidextrous!”
“You have a surprising knowledge of 1970′s American Funk.”
“You’re actually a good shot.”
Q invariably answers with the same quip: “Well spotted! You must be one of those spies I keep hearing about!” Really just so he doesn’t sprain an eye muscle by rolling them too hard.
But the best part is the reactions.
Margot says, “You know it, darling!” winks, and sashays out the door.
Alec sputters and looks at him quizzically, as if to say, “But… you know I’m a spy.”
But James just tries to conceal a smirk, recognizing that he’s said something rather stupid, but is pleased that Q can surprise him.
Later, when the obvious observation is “You aren’t a virgin at all…” James already looks chagrinned as the words pass his lips. As Q arches an eyebrow, James just kisses him and mutters, “Yes, yes… Spy, you know.”
