Today’s Been Great!

psychoticpterodactyl16:

Got in a wonderful sprint with my writing buddy @ato-the-bean! This was much needed and I’m so glad we could catch up.

Found out @dogsareafriendsbestman is as much of a nerd about the Before Sunset, Before Sunrise, Before Midnight trifecta as I am. Now I just need to re-watch them at some point.

Made plans to see @rositalagata! Been craving sushi and stoked to get to see you.

Yay!  And thanks to you I’m at 4500 words and tantalizingly close to being able to post the mood board, if not the chapter.

Wordplay as Foreplay, the Poetry Fics – The Edited Version

ato-the-bean:

In my continued PSA about non-AO3 Pinto fics, I rediscovered a story that I read years ago and loved, and then lost.  Zach is a poet, and the original poetry in the story is actually really striking.

And then it reminded me of another story, in which Chris and Zach text each bits of poetry long distance.

Both are gorgeously written and evocative.  Only one is non-AO3, but I linked them here for you, because they are linked in my mind.  If you know of any other fics focused on poetry, please feel free to add them and reblog.  I love this trope.

Title:  The Retiring of Joyce Dramis
Author:  ewinfic
Summary:  Pintofest prompt by babykid528
– “Zach’s an excellent poet… secretly.  Only his mom and brother know
he’s the author.  As it turns out Zach is Chris’ favorite poet – Chris
actually wrote a big final paper at Berkeley all about Zach’s poetry.”

Title: This is Just to Say
Author:  reginalds
Summary:  My favourite part of the canonical bromance between Chris Pine
and Zachary Quinto is that they’re both literary nerds. And that they
confine their displays of masculinity to the MASTERY OF THE ENGLISH
LANGUAGE. And you guys, I am such a hopeless and devoted English major,
and I am just not strong enough to resist the lure of grown men who fly
spaceships and use words like “moribund” and “zeitgeist” in interview
situations. So this is a story of how boy wooed boy.

Adding, one more that I’d forgotten was so poetry-laden.  The other suggestions were literary, but not necessarily poetic.

Title: Suave Sesquipedalian Bastard
Author:  blcwriter
Summary:  Chris is trapped in an inferno of words, and Zach Quinto is the devil stoking the fire.

I find it interesting that the last two use some of the same poems, and I’m wondering if Chris said in an interview once what his favorites were, or if there’s some other meta reason for that.

And edited again, adding one more that I wrote after the original post.  It didn’t start out as a poetry fic, but it did end up using a poem… to porny ends.

Title: ”What Spring Does”
Author: AtoTheBean
Summary:  Rabidchild67 asked, “So who’s writing the blindfolded, tied up pie fic
where zach makes him come by touching everything BUT his dick?”

I just reread The Retiring of Joyce Dramis again, and wanted to reblog my poetry fic compilation again because it’s SO GOOD and not on AO3, so a lot of people miss it.  Go read it now.  I’ll wait

I’m watching Man in the High Castle and you’re right – watching both right now is too much.

I love it, but yeah. I one cannot have ONLY repression and secret resistance stories in one’s life. Especially if we need to be resisting for real. Come to think of it, we also just saw Allegiance, and that was of a similar ilk (though the past, not the future). It’s important to be open to those stories, but not to the point that they affect your real mood and ability to cope. But I will probably try to watch HMT… if only to compare to the film. I wonder if they’ll skip the epilogue as well.

The Handmaid’s Tale looks so…

I read The Handmaid’s Tale every two years and I’m glad it’s getting more attention via the series but I have no desire to watch the series. I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s hitting to close to what could be.

It was feeling a bit close to home during the election, which is why I tried to make all my cis white male friends read it so they could understand why I was freaking the hell out. They can understand potential threats intellectually, but to have a visceral response you need a story… either to have lived one or read one. They got it afterwards. And none of them want to read it again, so I completely understand not wanting to subject yourself to the arc when you feel like you’re on it and you already have learned the visceral reaction. Don’t know if I have the stomach for Handmaid’s Tale and Man in the High Castle at the same time, tbh…

If you’ve made any posts on your blog about the chess photo, watch out for copyright infringement notices and posts being deleted due to “serious spoilers that may affect the viewers’ eperience”.

But … where in this chess picture are serious spoilers?! I don’t get it.

Well, the pic night relate to the big scene with Martin, Ben and Mark for TFP?

The synopsis of the episode is “

Someone has been playing a very long game indeed” – obviously Sherlock and Mycroft will torture John by playing an awfully long game of chess.

Original leaked footage – might be deleted soon as well…

The dog is John.  The cats are Mycroft and Sherlock.  Just another day in that 221b life.
